The findings indicate that Raspberry Pi-based NTP servers provide a practical and economical platform for the performance monitoring of industrial NTP servers, supporting the long-term evaluation of time dissemination services.

Abstract

Accurate time dissemination is essential for telecommunications, scientific instrumentation, industrial control, and distributed computer systems, motivating the development of cost-effective timing solutions. This work presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of low-cost Network Time Protocol (NTP) Stratum-1 servers based on Raspberry Pi platforms disciplined by a pulse-per-second (PPS) signal derived from a UTC(k) reference. The proposed systems were configured and optimized to provide traceable time synchronization services and were assessed through long-term comparisons against institutional Stratum-1 reference servers. Time offset and network delay were continuously monitored over extended observation periods, while synchronization stability was characterized using Time Deviation (TDEV) analysis. The findings indicate that Raspberry Pi-based NTP servers provide a practical and economical platform for the performance monitoring of industrial NTP servers, supporting the long-term evaluation of time dissemination services.

Remote Performance Evaluation of High-Precision Timekeeping Systems Based on BDS Real-Time PPP

Highlights What are the main findings? A real-time remote monitoring and performance evaluation scheme based on BDS RTPPP is developed for high-precision timekeeping systems, in which receiver-clock constrained PPP processing is adopted for real-time station clock estimation. The developed system achieves frequency sta...

Evaluation of an automated workflow for TSN-based bounded-latency communication in ISO IEEE 11073 SDC-based medical networks.

PURPOSE Interoperable, vendor-independent communication between medical devices in operating rooms has been enabled by the ISO IEEE 11073 Service-oriented Device Connectivity (SDC) standard since 2019. However, mechanisms for predictable and deterministic transmission behavior have not yet been standardized. One approa...

Design and Performance Evaluation of a Low-Cost Edge-To-Cloud Telemetry System for Industrial Monitoring

Industrial facilities increasingly rely on continuous telemetry acquisition to support condition monitoring, operational awareness, and predictive maintenance. However, many existing edge-to-cloud monitoring systems employ complex communication architectures involving message brokers and middleware, which can increase...

Bringing dApps to OCUDU: An E3 Controller for Real-Time Open RAN Intelligence

An open-source E3Controller for OCUDU is designed as a sidecar daemon so the E3 protocol stack, service-model logic, and dApp interactions live entirely outside RAN core processing, which is touched only through well-defined instrumentation hooks.

Toward Software-Defined TSN Scheduling: An eBPF Approach for Stream Processing and Delay Analysis in Industry 5.0

This paper presents a software-defined Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) architecture that implements the IEEE 802.1Qcr Asynchronous Traffic Shaper (ATS) using Extended Berkeley Packet Filter (eBPF) technology within Linux-based TSN bridges. By moving traffic shaping logic to the kernel level, our solution eliminates the...
