Abstract

Sabilul Muhtadin Islamic Boarding School manages financial transactions for approximately 100–300 students, but its income and expenditure records are still maintained in handwritten cash books. This practice makes monthly recapitulation time-consuming, increases the risk of recording errors, limits historical data retrieval, and prevents real-time financial monitoring. This study aims to design a web-based financial information system that reflects the actual working needs of the boarding school. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with the school leader, treasurer, and administrative staff, and documentation of the existing financial records. Source and technique triangulation were used to confirm the findings. System development followed the Waterfall model, limited to requirements analysis and system design. The analysis identified five principal problems: slow and error-prone recording, absence of automatic recapitulation, difficulty tracing previous transactions, unavailable real-time reports, and unclear access restrictions. The resulting design includes Dashboard, Income, Expense, Financial Report, User Management, and Transaction Category functions for two user roles, Admin and Treasurer. The design artifacts comprise use case and activity diagrams, an entity relationship diagram, and interface mockups. Each module was derived from observed tasks and interview results, while the design was refined through periodic supervisory discussions. The study produces a structured blueprint for subsequent coding and testing, with expected improvements in efficiency, traceability, transparency, and accountability.
