TL;DR
It is demonstrated that HAGOS-T is a valid and reliable tool for assessing functional status and quality of life in individuals aged 18-65 with hip OA.
Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to evaluate the validity, reliability, and interpretability of the Turkish version of the Copenhagen Hip and Groin Outcome Score (HAGOS-T) in individuals with hip osteoarthritis (OA).
Methods
In this cross-sectional study, the HAGOS was translated from English into Turkish following a structured cross-cultural adaptation process that included forward translation, back-translation, expert review, and pre-testing. This study was conducted in individuals with hip OA, and demographic, clinical, and survey data, including the Numeric Rating Scale, Short Form-36, and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, were collected. Reliability was assessed using test-retest analysis with intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and internal consistency. Construct validity, measurement error, and floor and ceiling effects were also evaluated as part of the psychometric assessment of the HAGOS-T.
Results
A total of 90 individuals participated in this study. The mean age of the participants was 54.2 years, and 67 (74.4%) were female. The participants' mean BMI was 27.3. In the reliability analysis, 52 (57.7%) participants completed the questionnaire again after one week to assess test-retest reliability. The ICC values of the HAGOS-T subscales ranged from 0.836 to 0.936, indicating good-excellent reliability. The MDC ranged from 11.6 to 19.8 at the individual level and from 1.60 to 2.74 at the group level. The Cronbach's alpha value for internal consistency ranged from 0.84 to 0.94. Construct validity was established with 94.1% of the hypotheses confirmed. No floor or ceiling effects were observed in the 6 subscales of the HAGOS-T.
Conclusions
This study demonstrated that HAGOS-T is a valid and reliable tool for assessing functional status and quality of life in individuals aged 18-65 with hip OA.
Findings support the validity and reliability of PRAFAB-Turkish for assessing UI-related quality of life and suggest a unidimensional structure in this sample.
