Abstract
Background: As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to advance, nursing education programs should ensure that student nurses acquire knowledge and skills necessary to effectively use AI technologies.
Aim: This study aimed to examine the relationship between nursing students' AI literacy and their attitudes toward AI.
Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study included 478 nursing students who met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate. Data were collected using an Information Form, the AI Literacy Scale, and the AI Attitude Scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Student's t-test, the Kruskal–Wallis test, Pearson correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis. A p value <0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: The mean AI Literacy Scale score was 60.55±10.98 (range: 12–84), and the mean AI Attitude Scale score was 45.75±6.76 (range: 13–65). A statistically significant, moderate positive correlation was found between students' AI liter-acy and AI attitude scores (r=0.502, p<0.05). Additionally, AI literacy and attitude scores differed significantly according to students' academic year, interest in AI, knowledge of AI, and knowledge of AI applications in health sciences and nursing.
Conclusion: The findings indicate that nursing students had generally positive levels of AI literacy and attitudes toward AI. Higher AI literacy was associated with more positive attitudes toward AI. Accordingly, considering AI literacy and related competencies in nursing education may be beneficial in preparing students to engage with AI technologies in their future professional practice.
Nursing students had a wavier level of artificial intelligence literacy of knowledge, attitude and practice and its application in nursing learning, which foster effective integration of artificial intelligence in nursing education.

Higher AI literacy was associated with lower AI anxiety, and this association was partly accounted for by AI attitudes and AI self-efficacy in the proposed serial mediation model, which suggests that more favorable attitudes may be linked to stronger self-efficacy, which may be related to lower anxiety.

Background: Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is increasingly integrated into nursing education, yet structured AI literacy training and ethical guidance remain limited. Consequently, nursing students often rely on informal learning, resulting in variability in AI readiness, confidence, and responsible use. Aims: This study was conducted to examine (1) whether AI literacy was positively associated with AI self-efficacy and AI attitudes and (2) whether AI self-efficacy mediated the relationship between AI literacy and AI attitudes. Methods: A cross-sectional survey using convenience sampling was conducted with 100 prelicensure nursing students in New York City. Data were collected using the AI Literacy Scale (AILS), AI Self-Efficacy Scale (AISES), and Generative AI Attitude Scale (GAIAS). Correlation and path analyses were performed using SPSS and Amos 30.0. Results: The participants had a mean age of 30.25 years, and 71% were women. AI literacy and AI self-efficacy were both positively associated with AI attitudes (all p < 0.001). Path analysis showed that AI literacy significantly predicted AI self-efficacy (β = 0.39, p < 0.001) and AI attitudes (β = 0.28, p = 0.003). AI self-efficacy significantly predicted AI attitudes (β = 0.31, p = 0.001) and partially mediated the relationship between AI literacy and AI attitudes. Conclusions: AI self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between AI literacy and AI attitudes. Nursing curricula may benefit from structured AI education that integrates guided GenAI practice, case-based learning, and faculty feedback. Such educational frameworks warrant further empirical investigation regarding their potential to foster AI literacy, AI self-efficacy, and positive attitudes toward responsible AI integration, particularly through longitudinal studies assessing subsequent behavioral outcomes.

Findings show that nursing students who feel more prepared for AI tend to be less anxious about technology and add AI training more consistently throughout the nursing curriculum and building digital skills may help reduce fear and make it easier for students to use AI tools in the future.
In recent times, nursing students have been utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology, as they perceive it boosts learning outcomes and academic performance and transforms several facets of healthcare. This study aimed to explore nursing students' knowledge, attitudes and perceptions concerning the adoption of AI in their academic and clinical areas. It applied an exploratory study design to cover the study population of all undergraduate students, including interns from selected private nursing colleges in Tamil Nadu, India (N = 440). A self-designed online questionnaire was distributed via Google Forms to the target population and 317 responded. The results showed that 81.3% were familiar with the term "AI" (81.3%). 76.3% recognized that AI would revolutionize the nursing field. Most nursing students consented that AI should be included in undergraduate (67.2%) and postgraduate (71.3%) nursing curricula. 77.9% perceived that AI would be helpful for their future career. A significant variation was observed in nursing students' knowledge, attitude and perception scores across age categories, but not for gender and year of study. This study concluded that female nursing students, especially those aged 17-19, demonstrated strong knowledge, an optimistic attitude and had a better perception of AI. The findings suggest that nursing students in India possess adequate knowledge about AI, indicating a positive perception that AI plays a transformative function in nursing education and practice, with a need for more focused training and integration into the curriculum.

Initial evidence is provided that the NAIRS is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing nursing students' readiness for artificial intelligence across knowledge/awareness, willingness to use AI, self-efficacy, and ethical awareness domains and may be useful for educational needs assessment and curriculum planning in nursing education.
