Abstract

De-identified participant-level data and analysis code supporting the article "Acoustic refurbishment of a Korean traditional music hall: listener judgements and physiological responses". Thirty-three listeners heard binaural auralisations of Yeakdang Hall, a hall for Korean traditional music (gugak) at the National Gugak Center in Seoul, in its existing state (Condition A) and with a refurbished design (Condition B). Both conditions were produced from the same calibrated room acoustic model and the same anechoic recording of a piece for gugak orchestra. For each listener, the data set gives the ratings of reverberance, clarity, spatial impression and overall preference for both conditions, the 21 heart rate variability (HRV) indices exported by the SA-3000NEW system for the baseline record and for the listening and recovery records of each condition, and the presentation order reconstructed from the device timestamps. The HRV values are processed indices computed by the device software from the electrocardiogram; raw electrocardiogram recordings and R–R interval series are not included. Source-level electroencephalography (EEG) theta power during the listening record of each condition in three regions of interest (right posterior cingulate, right cuneus and left cuneus), as exported by the original LORETA analysis, is given in a separate file; raw EEG recordings are not included. Files: participant_summary.csv (one row per participant), eeg_roi_theta.csv (source-level EEG theta power, one row per participant), codebook.csv (definition and unit of every column in participant_summary.csv and eeg_roi_theta.csv), receiver_acoustics.csv (room acoustic parameters measured in the existing hall at the 24 receiver positions, with the ten listening positions marked), README.md (study design, measurements, de-identification and how to reproduce the analyses) and code.zip (Python scripts that reproduce the rating, HRV and EEG statistics reported in the article, including Table 2, and draw Figure 2, with package versions). Names, dates of birth, dates and times of testing, age and sex were removed. Version 3.0.0 adds eeg_roi_theta.csv, the corresponding rows of codebook.csv and the EEG analysis code (eeg_roi_analysis.py in code.zip), and updates the README and the article title. participant_summary.csv and receiver_acoustics.csv are unchanged from version 2.0.0.

The impact of agile practices on communication in software development

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.
