Teacher’s Cultural Competence Scale (TCCS): Development and Validation of a Scale for Elementary School Teachers
Abstract
The study aimed to develop a Teacher's Cultural Competence Scale (TCCS) to assess the cultural competence of elementary school teachers. The 80-item measure is broken down into three dimensions: awareness, knowledge, and skill. After extensive discussion 21 items were removed and 5 items were bit reformed. Consequently, the preliminary draft of the scale was finalized with 59 items. The test's content, face, and content validity were evaluated through expert judgments and factor analysis. After receiving expert feedback, 7 items were removed from the initial draft of 51 items. The first sample was randomly selected from 78 elementary school teachers in Mau district, Uttar Pradesh, India. After completing the first try-out. The researchers administered the scale to 200 teachers. As a result of Cronbach’s Alpha, 7 items were omitted, and confirmed a scale of 44 items. The optimistic results of this study indicate that the scale is valid and reliable for elementary school teachers.
