Translation Challenges: English To Regional Languages - Issues in Accuracy, Cultural Context, And Idiomatic Expressions

2026 · International Journal of Multidisciplinary Research and Growth Evaluation · 0 citations

Abstract

This dissertation delves into the many challenges faced when translating English texts into regional languages, focusing on accuracy, cultural context, and, notably, idiomatic expressions. It grapples with how these factors often hinder effective communication and clear understanding. This is especially true in healthcare scenarios, where conveying precise information is critically important. Through qualitative data derived from interviews with translators, case studies examining particular translations, and in-depth analysis of translated texts, key discrepancies and cultural misunderstandings were brought to light. The research revealed that when cultural nuances and idiomatic language don't get enough attention, translation quality really suffers. As the findings suggest, translators frequently find it hard to properly convey complex medical terminology alongside culturally specific contexts; this can unfortunately lead to misunderstandings and, therefore, less effective patient care. The significance of all this resides in the implications for healthcare communication: precise translations and culturally sensitive ones are essential in ensuring that medical information is appropriately and thoroughly understood by diverse populations. This research ultimately highlights the need for enhanced training programs for translators who work in the healthcare sector, as well as the implementation of standardized guidelines that prioritize cultural competence in translation practices. The insights garnered from this study could potentially improve patient outcomes by encouraging better communication between healthcare providers and their patients across linguistic divides, thus contributing to more effective healthcare delivery alongside greater equity in health communication.
