Baseline Systemic Inflammation Response Index and Clinical Outcomes in Heavily Pretreated Platinum-Resistant Ovarian Cancer Treated with Pembrolizumab Monotherapy
Abstract
Simple Summary Platinum-resistant ovarian cancer is difficult to treat, and the immunotherapy drug pembrolizumab provides long-lasting cancer control in only a small proportion of patients. We investigated whether routine blood tests taken before treatment could provide information about which patients tend to have better outcomes. We focused on inflammatory blood-based markers and found that patients with a lower systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) tended to have longer cancer control and survival. SIRI can be calculated easily from standard blood cell counts and does not require additional testing. However, this study was retrospective and conducted at a single institution, and it cannot determine whether SIRI specifically predicts the effect of pembrolizumab. Larger studies are needed before SIRI can be used to guide treatment decisions.
