Abstract
Background: Stress is a universal and unpleasant experience which affects us all in different ways and at different times in today’s supercharged workplaces. Women are also more likely than men to be adversely affected by mental disorders. Meditation and mindfulness, rooted in ancient traditions, enhance mental well-being by cultivating awareness and emotional control. Aim: To assess the Level of Stress among Working Women (20-58 years) in selected urban area of Nerchowk District Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Methods: A quasi-experimental, non-randomized pre-test post-test control group design was used among 60 Female Teachers (20-58 years) selected through non-probability purposive sampling. Level of stress was assessed using Self Structured Stress Assessment tool. The experimental group received Mindfulness Meditation for a duration of 4 weeks, while no intervention was given to control group. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, unpaired t-test, and chi-square test. Results: The experimental group showed that the mean post-test stress score reduced to 40.93 ± 6.518 from the pre-test mean score of 52.63 ± 5.696, whereas no significant change was observed in control group. The paired t-test value was 13.834 with p = 0.001, which was statistically significant. The unpaired t-test showed a highly significant difference in post-test scores (t = 7.133, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Mindfulness Meditation was effective in reducing the level of stress among Working Women (20-58 years) in selected urban area.
