TL;DR

It is shown that astrocyte-secreted proteins regulate global neuronal translation depending on astrocytic state, and astrocyte-secreted signals required neuronal endocytosis to influence translation and drove synaptic remodeling dependent on glutamatergic signaling and neuronal mTORC1 activity.

[Gq-GPCR upregulation in reactive astrocytes: implication for neurological disorders].

Astrocytes are essential glial cells that maintain brain homeostasis. Upon brain injury, they become reactive astrocytes with altered morphology, gene expression, and function, including dysregulated Ca2+ signaling implicated in disease development and progression. P2Y1 receptor (P2Y1R), one of Gq-GPCRs, is upregulated...

Molecular signaling pathways shaping astrocyte–microglia crosstalk in health and disease

The molecular mechanisms underlying astrocyte–microglia molecular crosstalk in physiological and pathological contexts are summarized, with particular emphasis on the secreted mediators that dynamically reprogram glial signaling networks.

Canonical Wnt signaling regulates NG2 glia fate and plasticity in healthy and ischemic cortex

NG2 glia, also known as oligodendrocyte precursor cells, display unexpected plasticity in the adult brain after injury, yet the molecular cues guiding their fate remain unclear. The Wnt signaling pathway contributes to post-stroke responses, but its role in glial remodeling is not well defined. Here, we show that Wnt...

Local translation couples synaptic activity to mitochondrial adaptation in dendrites

Neurons rely on localized protein synthesis to rapidly adapt synaptic function to activity, yet how dendritic translation regulates mitochondrial remodeling during synaptic plasticity remains poorly understood. Here, we show that neuronal activity engages a spatially restricted translational program that couples local...

Neuronal translational control in physiology, infection, and inflammation.

Neurons are highly specialized cells whose function depends on dynamic regulation of gene expression. With increasing subcellular compartmentalization, neuronal gene expression becomes less dependent on transcription in the perinuclear region and tends to be increasingly controlled by local translation. The integrated...
