TL;DR

HRQoL contrasts among Moroccan hemodialysis patients highlight urgent needs to manage fatigue and encourage structured physical and social participation.

Abstract

Background

This study evaluated health-related quality of life (HRQoL) differences between public (N = 61) and private (N = 61) sector hemodialysis patients in Morocco using Moroccan and French EQ-5D-5 L value sets.

Methods

EQ-5D-5 L dimensions, utility index, and Visual Analog Scale (EQ-VAS) scores were compared between sectors through a bivariate analysis HRQoL determinants were identified via Generalized Linear Model (GLM) multivariable regression, adjusting for socio-demographic and clinical covariates.

Results

Private sector patients reported higher 'no problem' rates in mobility (45.9% vs. 19.7%), self-care (34.4% vs. 18.0%), usual activities (34.4% vs. 6.6%), and pain/discomfort (31.1% vs. 11.5%). Median Moroccan utility scores were significantly higher in private vs. public sectors (0.79 vs. 0.48, p = 0.003), mirrored by French scores (0.85 vs. 0.63, p > 0.001) and EQ-VAS (median: 72 vs. 70, p > 0.001). In multivariable GLM regression, the treatment sector was not an independent predictor (beta = -0.128, p = 0.345). Instead, employment status (beta = 0.302, p = 0.035) exhibited significantly higher health-related quality of life, whereas lower weekly dialysis frequency (beta = -0.362, p = 0.003) independently predicted lower HRQoL.

Conclusion

HRQoL contrasts among Moroccan hemodialysis patients highlight urgent needs to manage fatigue and encourage structured physical and social participation.

EQ-5D-5L quality of life scores predict long-term outcomes in kidney transplant recipients.

BACKGROUND Kidney transplantation is the optimal method of renal replacement therapy. The EQ-5D-5L is a widely used instrument for assessing health-related quality of life (HRQoL) across different populations. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to assess HRQoL in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) compared with the general...

Assessment of Health-Related Quality of Life in Gastric Cancer Patients: A Cross-Sectional Study in North-Eastern Kazakhstan

Background/Objectives: Gastric cancer severely affects health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This study evaluated HRQoL profiles and identified clinical, functional, and symptom correlates among gastric cancer patients in Kazakhstan. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a single-center cohort (n = 387) u...

Evaluating Health-Related Quality of Life After Kidney Transplantation in Kazakhstan

Characterizing quality-of-life outcomes in kidney transplant recipients can provide important information for identifying care gaps, standardizing post-transplant monitoring, preserving long-term transplant function, and reducing adverse complications throughout the post-transplant period.

Pattern of Symptom Burden and Quality of Life: A Cross-Sectional Comparative Study Among Hemodialysis and Non-Dialysis Patients with End-Stage Kidney Disease

Background: Patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) often experience significant symptom burden and reduced quality of life (QoL). This study compared these outcomes between hemodialysis (HD) and non-dialysis (ND) ESKD patients in India. Methods: A six-month cross-sectional study was conducted among 247 patients...
