Abstract
Breast cancer is second cause of death in women and continue to be a threat globally, this study examined the epidemiology analysis of breast cancer in-patients in Zamfara State over 10 years period that spanned 2012 – 2021. The scope of the study covers three General hospitals in Zamfara State, Nigeria namely; Federal Medical Centre Gusau Zamfara State, General Hospital Gusau Zamfara State, and Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital Gusau Zamfara State. Data was sourced basically through secondary means from breast cancer incidence registers in the three hospitals of the study for the period of 2012 to 2021. The findings of the study show that breast cancer is prevalence among the female gender. The results from the analysis also showed that the prevalence of the disease differs among different age groups while the age range 50 to 59 seems to have the highest prevalence. For the young persons under 30 years, it was found that the incidence was very low, but for the elderly persons the incidence was very high. its recommended that health education or sensitization should be given along with regular breast cancer screening to women, especially post-menopausal women, and early regular screening for women in reproductive age group will help in early diagnosis and prompt treatment.
Background: Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide and remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths. The objective of the study is to ascertain the knowledge, attitude and breast cancer preventive practices of women of reproductive age (15 – 49 years) in Ebonyi State. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study design was adopted in the study. It consists of 383 women of reproductive age in Ezza North and they were selected across the two zones of the local government area using multi-stage sampling technique. Results: The study revealed that several 132(34.5%) of the respondents are of ages 20-29 years, majority 265(63.2%) and 289(75.5%) of the study participants have attained secondary and tertiary level of education respectively, more number 306(79.9%) of the respondents are Christians, and several 350(83.5%) of the participants are students. More than half 216(56.4%) of the participants have good knowledge of breast cancer while a lesser fraction 167(43.6%) of the respondents have poor knowledge of women about breast cancer. Majority 256(66.8%) of the participants have positive attitude towards breast cancer preventive practices. Also, most 277(72.3%) of the participants have good preventive practices of breast cancer and none of the participant has breast cancer. The shows that there is statistically significant relationship between age (p=0.0001), religion (p=0.0001), occupation (p=0.0001), and preventive practices of breast cancer. Conclusion: The findings indicate that most respondents demonstrated adequate knowledge about the nature, causes, and prevention of breast cancer, recognizing it as a leading cause of death among women and emphasizing the importance of early detection through awareness and screening. Continuous and community-based breast cancer awareness programs should be implemented to sustain and expand women’s knowledge of the disease, its risk factors, and early detection methods.

Light is shed on the prevalence of cancer in Somalia and the dire need for accessible and affordable oncology services in Somalia and the urgent to need to establish national or population-based cancer registries to determine cancer incidence, identify risk factors, and create national plan for cancer prevention, control, and treatment.
Reducing the incidence and mortality rates of breast cancer requires comprehensive regional scientific approaches, including epidemiological, medico-demographic, hygienic, clinical, and molecular-genetic studies as the basis for integrated information for the elaboration and implementation of early diagnosis and prevention programs for oncological diseases.

Background: Breast cancer (BC) is a type of cancer that develops in the cells of the breast. It is the most common cancer diagnosed in women worldwide, although it can also occur in men. Family history is a major risk factor for breast cancer. Familial breast cancer, defined by the clustering of cases within a pedigree, accounts for roughly 20% to 30% of all diagnoses, while high-penetrance germline mutations in genes such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 contribute to 5% to 10% of the total burden. Aim: To determine the percentage of family history of breast cancer among patients attending the National Cancer Centre of Benghazi. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted using convenience sampling of all patients with files during 2023. Results: A total of 124 female patients, of whom 34% were aged 46 to 55 and 28% aged 36 to 45. The mean age of patients was 51.8 ±11.6, the minimum age was 31, and the maximum age was 81. 55% had a family history of breast cancer. Conclusion: This study highlights the significant presence of family history among breast cancer patients attending the National Cancer Centre of Benghazi. More than half of the patients (55%) reported a positive family history of breast cancer, suggesting that hereditary factors may play an important role in the occurrence of the disease among this population. These results emphasise the importance of increasing awareness about family history as a major risk factor for breast cancer and highlight the need for improved screening, early detection programs, and genetic counselling for women with a positive family history to reduce the burden of the disease.

The study is devoted to analyzing the dynamics of one-year and five-year survival rates of gastric cancer (GC) patients in the Northwestern Federal District of Russia (NWFD RF) at the population level, taking into account age and sex characteristics, as well as comparing real survival rates with official statistics data. The study used the database of the Population-Based Cancer Registry (PBCR) of the NWFD RF, containing 88,572 verified cases of GC for the period 2000–2022. Observed and relative survival were calculated using a modified Eurocare program. It was found that one-year observed survival of GC patients increased from 37.4% (2000–2004) to 45.8% (2020–2022), an increase of 22.5%. This indicator is higher in women (47.5%) than in men (44.5%). Five-year observed survival (calculated up to 2014) increased from 17.0% to 19.1%. Median survival reached 10.5 months in women and 9.3 months in men. In patients under 50 years of age, one-year survival was 56.3% versus 44.9% in patients aged 50 and older, which refutes the common belief about a more aggressive course of cancer in young people. A significant discrepancy was revealed between official data (Form No. 7) and actual indicators: the reported proportion of early stages (43.2% on average in the Russian Federation) is significantly overestimated, while the actual five-year survival for stage I does not exceed 70% (compared to the expected ≥90%). An improvement in the quality of morphological verification was noted: the proportion of cases without morphological confirmation decreased from 23.3% to 9.2%. In the histological structure, adenocarcinoma without further specification predominates (66.0%). Despite the positive dynamics of survival, the real effectiveness of gastric cancer treatment remains insufficient due to late diagnosis and distortion of reporting data. The necessity of integrating population-based cancer registries into official statistics is substantiated.

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common female cancer worldwide. Its management has evolved overtime. This study aimed to review the surgical management of breast cancer at the Yaoundé General Hospital (YGH) from 2018 to 2023. Methodology: We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study at the YGH. We studied the records of patients who underwent breast cancer surgery from January 2018 to July 2023. Data were analysed using R version 4.2.3. Quantitative variables were represented by means or medians, and qualitative variables by proportions. The χ ² test was used to assess associations between variables. Results: We reviewed 202 surgically managed breast cancer cases. The median age was 46 years, mostly women (196/202, 96%). Most patients had a breast nodule, usually in the upper outer quadrant of the left breast. Advanced disease was common, with 95 (47%) at stage T4 and 108 (53.5%) involving lymph nodes. Invasive ductal carcinoma was the most common histologic type (161, 79.7%). Mastectomy was the predominant surgical technique (186/202, 92.08%), while 16 (7.9%) patients had conservative surgery. Tumour stage influenced surgery type. Mastectomy was mainly for stage T3 (41/186, 22%), oncoplastic procedure for T2 (5/8, 62.5%) and lumpectomies for T1 (6/8, 75%). Postoperative complications occurred in 41 (20.3%) patients, with superinfection and lymphocele being the most common. Conclusion: Breast cancer at YGH is frequently diagnosed at advanced stages, with invasive ductal carcinoma being the most common type. Radical mastectomy with axillary dissection is the most common surgical approach. Postoperative complications include superinfection and lymphocele.
