TL;DR

Prevalence and longitudinal changes of respiratory microbiological profile in children and young adults with PCD, and their association with clinical, functional, and radiological features are evaluated.

Abstract

Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) is a genetic disorder characterized by respiratory infections leading to chronic airway colonization and progressive lung damage. The aim of this study is to evaluate prevalence and longitudinal changes of respiratory microbiological profile in children and young adults with PCD, and their association with clinical, functional, and radiological features.

Making the Diagnosis of Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia in Australia

Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) is a genetic disorder associated with recurrent infections and irreversible airway damage. No single diagnostic test exists, necessitating use of a diagnostic algorithm that varies internationally. This retrospective study aimed to describe the clinical characteristics of patients, and...

Longitudinal Impact of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Versus Haemophilus influenzae Colonization on Lung Function Decline in Children With Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia

The association of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PsA) and Haemophilus influenzae (HI) colonization with lung function in children with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) remains insufficiently defined. We aimed to compare spirometric parameters between PsA‐ and HI‐colonized children and evaluate longitudinal changes before, at...

Indicators of cellular and humoral immunity in children with primary ciliary dyskinesia

Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare genetic disorder (belonging to a group of ciliopathies) caused by impaired mucociliary clearance. It leads to chronic bacterial colonization of the respiratory tract and manifests as recurrent respiratory infections. Since clinical manifestations of PCD resemble those of prima...

Variants in CEP135 Cause Congenital Microcephaly and Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia

Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), a disorder of motile ciliary dysfunction causing chronic respiratory infections, may also rarely present with aspects of non‐motile ciliary dysfunction, including retinitis, central nervous system malformations, skeletal dysplasia, and sensorineural hearing loss. However, congenital mi...

Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia with Secondary Pseudomonas aeruginosa Infection in a Dog: Endoscopic and Diagnostic Findings

Simple Summary A young dog was presented with a lifelong history of chronic respiratory signs that partially improved with antibiotic treatment but repeatedly returned after therapy was stopped. To investigate the underlying cause, endoscopic examination of the respiratory tract was performed, allowing the collection o...

Diffuse bronchiolitis and atelectasis as early features of primary ciliary dyskinesia in children: a genotype–phenotype study

Diffuse bronchiolitis and atelectasis are recognised clinical features of primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). This study aimed to investigate the occurrence and temporal trajectories of these features in 34 children with PCD, stratified by genotype. We retrospectively reviewed children with genetically confi...
