The Impact of Green Supply Chain Management on Organizational Sustainability in the Libyan Manufacturing Sector: The Mediating Role of Technological Innovation and Environmental Performance
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of green supply chain management on organizational sustainability, where technology innovation and environmental performance are taken as mediating factors. The focus of this study was on the increasing need for better protection of the environment and the increasing demands of the sustainable development of industries, especially in developing countries, where there are limited empirical data available on sustainability activities. The collected sample comprised 387 managers and technologists from Libyan manufacturing companies using a survey instrument and a stratified random sampling technique. Validity scales were used, and the measurements were done using the five-point Likert scale. The data analysis involved the use of PLS-SEM, where SmartPLS 4.0 was used. It entailed the analysis of the measurement model as well as the structural model, with the bootstrapping being done for 5000 samples. The findings show that GSCM significantly affects the OS. Specifically, it has a positive impact on environmental performance (EP) and technological innovation (TI), which, in turn, enhance the OS. Among the mediating factors, the EP was found to be the strongest predictor and mediator of the OS, followed by TI. The developed model proved to have a high explanatory power, with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.660. Thus, the integration of GSCM with innovation and environmental activities can lead to the successful achievement of sustainability objectives among manufacturing enterprises. The study’s limitations are associated with its cross-sectional design and its focus on managers. Future research could employ longitudinal designs and examine other contexts, such as digital transformation, the institutional environment, and the organizational culture.
Green supply chain management (GSCM) has become a strategic requirement for industrial firms seeking to reduce environmental harm while improving long-term sustainability performance. Despite growing interest in green procurement, eco-design, green manufacturing, and green distribution, limited empirical evidence explains how these practices are converted into sustainability performance through collaborative environmental action in the Sultanate of Oman. Guided by the Natural Resource-Based View, this study examines the effects of four GSCM practices on environmental collaboration and investigates the mediating role of environmental collaboration in the relationship between GSCM practices and sustainability performance. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted among procurement, manufacturing, logistics, and supply chain professionals working in Omani industries. From 520 questionnaires distributed, 342 valid responses were retained for analysis. The data were analyzed using Smart PLS 4.0 and partial least squares structural equation modelling. The measurement model demonstrated acceptable reliability, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. The structural results show that eco-design, green procurement, green manufacturing, and green distribution have significant positive effects on environmental collaboration. Environmental collaboration, in turn, has a strong positive effect on sustainability performance. The indirect effects also support the mediation of the relationships between the GSCM practices and the sustainability performance, confirming the mediation chain. The results indicated that green practices are not enough; they have to be integrated with the collaboration of suppliers, customers, logistics and other functions within the company to make green practices produce results in terms of performance. The study adds to GSCM and sustainability literature by providing a relational mechanism that determines the contribution of green practices to the industrial sustainability of the Oman context.

This study analyzes the impact of green supply chain management practices (GSCMP) on the sustainable performance (SP) of manufacturing and exporting enterprises in Vietnam (DNSXXK) across three dimensions: economic performance (ECP), environmental performance (EVP), and social performance (SOP), while simultaneously exploring the moderating role of traceability (TRB) in these relationships. Specifically, the research examines whether TRB amplifies or diminishes the strength of the effect of GSCMP on each type of performance, thereby providing a more comprehensive understanding of how manufacturing and exporting enterprises in Vietnam can leverage traceability as a supporting tool to optimize economic benefits, mitigate environmental impacts, and enhance social responsibility in the context where sustainable development is increasingly becoming a prevailing trend. The study employs survey data collected from 319 randomly selected manufacturing and exporting enterprises, with the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach used for data analysis and hypothesis testing. The empirical results reveal that GSCMP significantly influence sustainable performance across all three dimensions. This finding underscores the critical role of green supply chain management practices in enhancing the overall operational effectiveness of enterprises, not only in terms of economic gains but also in relation to environmental and social responsibilities. However, the results also indicate that traceability does not play a positive moderating role between GSCMP and SP, primarily due to barriers associated with workforce capacity, technological infrastructure, and financial resources, which limit the effective implementation of traceability in enterprises. Based on these findings, the study proposes several important policy implications, emphasizing the promotion of GSCMP as a strategic tool to enhance sustainable performance, alongside investments in and the development of traceability capabilities to ensure supply chain transparency and sustainability. These measures are intended to minimize pollution and strengthen social obligations in the global trade environment, thereby improving competitiveness and integration capacity in the international marketplace.

As environmental consciousness is growing, the concept of sustainability has become increasingly central to business strategies across sectors. Organizations are required to implement environmental-friendly practices and to develop sustainable strategies not just for the health of the environment but also for sustaining the industry for the future. The purpose of this study is to empirically investigate the influence of green supply chain management on sustainability development. Questionnaire was used to collect data from 250 customers of sachet water producing companies in Onitsha, Anambra State, while Regression Analysis was used to analyze the data with the aid of SPSS version 23. The results of the hypothesis testing showed that green supply chain management has a positive influence on sustainability development. The study recommends that since green chain management has a positive influence on sustainability development, businesses should develop a clear strategy for adopting green supply chain management, invest in the necessary resources and technology and build a culture of sustainability within the organization. Policymakers should provide incentives and support to encourage businesses to adopt green supply chain management.

Organizations, in order to remain resilient against turbulent environmental conditions and to adapt to competitive requirements, have no alternative but to create and maintain a sustainable competitive advantage. The purpose of the present study is to examine the impact of green supply chain management practices on sustainable development goals (case study: Foundry Sand Supply Company). The statistical population of the study consisted of all employees of the Foundry Sand Supply Company, totaling 200 individuals, from whom a sample of 100 participants was selected based on the Cochran formula. The sampling method was random. Data were collected using a questionnaire, and the research hypotheses were tested through structural equation modeling. The results indicated that the more effectively the company applies eco-design practices and employs environmentally friendly energy resources in the production process to control environmental risks, the better it can enhance organizational efficiency and productivity.

In the context of ongoing geopolitical uncertainty and the post–COVID‐19 environment, firms in developing economies face increasing pressure to adopt advanced digital technologies while simultaneously improving their environmental responsibility. Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies are widely recognized as enablers of sustainable operations; however, empirical evidence explaining how these technologies translate into improved environmental performance (EP) through responsible supply chain practices remains limited. Addressing this gap, the present study examines the effect of I4.0 technologies on EP, emphasizing the mediating role of green supply chain management (GSCM) and the moderating influence of government regulation. Using survey data collected from textile manufacturing firms in Pakistan, the proposed moderated mediation model is tested employing partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS‐SEM) and importance–performance map analysis (IPMA). The results demonstrate that I4.0 technologies have a significant and positive influence on the EP; while GSCM significantly and positively mediates the association between I4.0 technologies and EP, and government regulation positively moderates the relationship between GSCM and EP. The results highlight the complementary roles of digital transformation, green supply chain practices, and regulatory governance in promoting environmental sustainability. This study offers actionable insights for managers and policymakers seeking to align technological innovation with corporate social responsibility and environmental management objectives in developing economies.

Purpose: This study investigates the impact of four green supply chain management (GSCM) practices—eco-design, green procurement, green manufacturing, and green distribution—on firm performance, while examining the mediating role of sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) among manufacturing firms in Pakistan's textile industry.
Approach: Grounded in a positivist research philosophy, the study adopts a quantitative, cross-sectional survey design. Data were collected through a structured, five-point Likert-scale questionnaire administered to 150 managers, supervisors, and supply chain professionals working in textile manufacturing firms located in Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, and Multan, using a convenience sampling technique. Data were analysed using SPSS for descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, and Pearson correlation, and AMOS for confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modelling (SEM), and bootstrapped mediation testing.
Findings: The measurement model demonstrated sound reliability (overall Cronbach's α = .913) and adequate sampling adequacy (KMO = .843, Bartlett's test significant, p < .001). Eco-design (β = .410), green procurement (β = .194), green manufacturing (β = .191), and green distribution (β = .165) each exerted a significant positive effect on firm performance, and SSCM itself was a strong positive predictor of firm performance (β = .678). However, SSCM significantly mediated only the relationship between eco-design and firm performance (β = .329, p < .001); its mediating role in the relationships involving green procurement, green manufacturing, and green distribution was not statistically supported.
Contributions: The study extends the Resource-Based View by demonstrating that GSCM practices function as valuable, rare, and difficult-to-imitate resources that translate into performance gains, partly through sustainable supply chain capabilities. Textile manufacturers should prioritize eco-design initiatives and strengthen the sustainable supply chain infrastructure required to convert broader green practices into measurable performance outcomes.
Originality value: This is among the first studies to empirically test SSCM as a mediating mechanism between multiple GSCM dimensions and firm performance within Pakistan's textile sector, an emerging-economy context where such evidence remains scarce.
