Abstract

With the rapid penetration of generative AI (GAI) in product design, designer-GAI value co-creation has emerged as a transformative new paradigm. However, the drivers and inhibitors of professional designers’ intentions to engage in GAI value co-creation remain under-explored, especially from the designer-centric perspective. Grounded in parasocial interaction theory (PSI), this study aims to examine how heterogeneous human–AI interaction modes (enhanced vs. impeded) affect designers’ co-creation intentions. This study examines the hypotheses using survey data from 305 professional designers analyzed via partial least squares structural equation modeling. Results show that the informativeness and novelty of GAI outputs significantly and positively predict designers’ co-creation intentions. Enhanced human–AI interaction positively promotes both informativeness and novelty, with AI transparency positively moderating these effects. Impeded human–AI interaction only negatively affects informativeness, with no significant effect on novelty, and AI transparency shows no moderating effect here. This study extends human–AI interaction research and provides actionable guidance for GAI application in design practice.

Exploring fashion designers’ acceptance of AIGC: A dual-pathway analysis from the stimulus–organism–response perspective

Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) is increasingly used in creative design. Understanding fashion designers’ willingness to adopt these tools has therefore become important for both research and practice. Drawing on the Stimulus–Organism–Response (SOR) model, this study integrates Self-Determination Theor...

The more deeply embedded in AI, the more creative you become? Investigating the pathways linking AI identity and creative deviance

This study aims to explore how the formation of artificial intelligence (AI) identity impacts employees' creative deviance. Drawing on role theory and the cognitive-affective system theory, it analyzes the pathways and boundary conditions of this influence in the AI-integrated workplace. Using a multi-wave r...

The refined interaction value framework: advancing value co-creation in human–AI service systems in the AI-era

This paper aims to advance understanding of value co-creation and value co-destruction in artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled services by introducing the Refined Interaction Value Framework (R-IVF). The R-IVF explains how interaction value depends not only on technical performance, but also on how users interpret...

Human–AI co-creation in generative AI video: content characteristics, flow experience, and continued creation intention—a hybrid SEM–ANN study

Introduction Grounded in the stimulus–organism–response (S-O-R) theory and flow theory, this study investigates the pathways through which five dimensions of artificial intelligence (AI) video content characteristics—generation quality, emotional resonance, visual novelty, interaction, and narrative coherence—influence...

Agent Lightning v1.0: A 3,500-Line Lightweight Agentic RL Framework for Training Agents with Real Harnesses

Training AI agents with reinforcement learning can be challenging because their tools, context, and decision-making are managed by complex frameworks. Agent Lightning connects existing agents to RL training, making it easier to improve them without rebuilding them.
