TL;DR

This study shows that hepatitis C virus dynamically remodels lipid droplets, causing an early increase in lipid storage followed by droplet enlargement and mobilization of fatty acids during later infection, and Lipid hydrolysis and mitochondrial fatty acid trafficking therefore represent potential host-directed targets for limiting HCV infection.

Infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus promotes replication organelle formation and sphingolipid biosynthesis to facilitate viral replication.

It is demonstrated that ISKNV hijacks host lipid metabolism through two mechanisms: 1) increasing of unsaturated fatty acid-containing lipids to facilitate the formation of viral replication organelles, and 2) activating sphingolipid biosynthesis to promote ceramide accumulation.

Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) relies on cellular lipid droplet biogenesis and lipolysis to provide energy for viral replication

Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), one of the most important viral pathogens in cattle, causes serious economic losses due to immunosuppression and persistent infections. Previous studies have shown a tight connection between virus infection and lipid metabolism, particularly in the formation and degradation of lipid...

IRE1α Is Associated with Host Lipid Biosynthesis During Human Coronavirus OC43 Infection

Research into the replication of human coronaviruses has surged, but much remains unknown regarding the host factors that influence disease. These viruses often activate cellular endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress responses, benefiting from incompletely understood downstream effects. In this study, we investigated the r...

African swine fever virus remodels cellular host metabolism and promotes lipid droplet formation in macrophages and cell lines

Background African swine fever virus (ASFV) is a large cytoplasmic DNA virus that causes a highly lethal disease in pigs and poses a major threat to global animal health and food security. ASFV infection is characterized by extensive reprogramming of host cellular pathways to support viral replication, including immune...

Transcriptomic and Zonal Signatures of Mitochondrial Peroxisomal Dysfunction in HCV Associates with Circulating Mitochondrial DNA Biomarkers

Mitochondria and peroxisomes are critical for hepatic energy metabolism, lipid homeostasis, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) detoxification. In chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, continuous injury leads to cirrhosis; however, the spatial arrangement and reversibility of organelle dysfunction remain poorly unde...

Niemann-Pick type C1 protein regulates epidermal growth factor receptor stability in hepatic cells and facilitates the early steps of Hepatitis B virus infection

Background Chronic Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection affects more than 250 million individuals worldwide, causing up to 1 million deaths yearly. Despite the significant disease burden, no curative therapy against HBV is currently available. Accumulating evidence indicate a strong and complex relationship between HBV an...
