The results demonstrated that miR-2411-3p and miR-320a were identified as characteristic endometrial miRNAs regulated by ovarian steroid hormones in bovine.

Abstract

The present study aimed to identify and characterize bovine endometrial miRNAs at different stages of the estrous cycle. Total RNA was extracted from endometrial tissue and subjected to small RNA sequencing. A total of 334 miRNAs were expressed in bovine endometrial tissue during the estrous cycle. Among them, 11 were differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) at the follicular stage (F-DEMs) and four at the luteal stage (L-DEMs) in comparison between F and L stages. Bioinformatic analysis of the target genes of these DEMs revealed that miR-2411-3p and miR-320a were the top-ranked hub miRNAs in F- and L-DEMs, respectively. These two miRNAs demonstrated the highest functional coverage in GO annotation. The analysis using cultured bovine endometrial cells showed that the expression level of miR-2411-3p was significantly high in the E2-treated group compared to the control (p < 0.05), whereas the expression level of miR-320a was significantly high in the P4-treated group (p < 0.05). The present study identified the endometrial DEMs during the estrous cycle and predicted their functions based on their target genes. The results demonstrated that miR-2411-3p and miR-320a were identified as characteristic endometrial miRNAs regulated by ovarian steroid hormones in bovine.

miR-130a-5p regulates steroid hormone synthesis in porcine ovarian granulosa cells by targeting APOE and modulating cholesterol metabolism.

A miR-130a-5p/APOE axis that links cholesterol metabolism-related processes to steroid hormone synthesis in porcine granulosa cells is identified and provides a candidate pathway for further investigation of endocrine regulation in gilts.

The transcriptomic analysis of equine in vitro cultured fibroblasts derived from endometria with or without endometrosis.

Endometrosis is a chronic degenerative condition of the endometrium in the mare, with fibrosis being the most prevalent. In the current study, the transcriptome signature of in vitro cultured fibroblasts derived from endometria with or without endometrosis was compared by RNA sequencing to elucidate alterations in gene...

Identification of miR-187 as a regulator of early oogenesis and follicle growth in medaka ovary

It is demonstrated that miR-187 acts as a previously unrecognized regulator of early folliculogenesis and female reproductive capacity in medaka, expanding the repertoire of miRNAs with essential in vivo roles in teleost oogenesis and female fecundity.

Changes in gene expression associated with vitamin A metabolism in the corpora lutea and endometria during day 15 of the estrous cycle and throughout gestation in gilts.

Retinoids (i.e., vitamin A and metabolites) have biological importance for functions involved in growth and development, immunity, and reproduction. Previous studies involving retinoids have demonstrated positive associations with increased luteal progesterone (P4) concentrations, and similarly, progesterone has been i...
