Abstract
This community service program, entitled "Ethical Use of Artificial intelligence (AI) for Learning," was conducted by lecturers from the Information Systems Study Program, Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA), at SMP Negeri 18 Gresik. The program aimed to enhance teachers' digital literacy and competencies in utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) responsibly, creatively, and ethically to support teaching and learning activities. The program employed a collaborative workshop approach consisting of interactive lectures, question-and-answer discussions, hands-on simulations, and evaluation sessions. During the three-hour workshop, participants were introduced to various AI applications, including ChatGPT, Canva AI, Quillionz, and DALL·E, for lesson planning, assessment development, instructional media creation, and classroom evaluation. In addition to technical skills, the training emphasized AI ethics based on UNESCO (2021) and OECD (2023) principles, including responsibility, privacy, fairness, transparency, accountability, and the human-in-the-loop approach. The evaluation results indicated that most participating teachers were able to develop AI-assisted lesson plans, create assessment instruments and instructional media, and apply ethical principles by verifying AI-generated outputs before classroom implementation. Participant feedback also demonstrated increased awareness of AI Ethics Literacy and highlighted the need for further training and school-level AI usage policies. The program produced tangible outcomes in the form of improved teacher competencies in responsible AI utilization, AI-assisted instructional resources, and strengthened awareness of digital ethics, thereby supporting sustainable digital transformation in secondary education.
