Abstract

The increasing influence of digital technologies has transformed educational practices globally, necessitating a shift in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) toward technology-driven pedagogy. This study examines how preparing ECCE teachers through the integration of technology and pedagogical practices can enhance quality early learning outcomes in the digital age. Anchored on an analytical framework, the study explores key variables including teacher preparation, technology integration, pedagogical practices, learning environment and support systems, and quality early learning outcomes. It highlights that effective teacher preparation, encompassing both pre-service and in-service training, is fundamental to equipping educators with the competencies required to integrate digital tools into child-centered and play-based learning. It further emphasizes that technology integration, when developmentally appropriate, enhances children’s engagement, creativity, and cognitive development, while innovative pedagogical practices that combine traditional approaches with digital strategies foster 21st-century skills among young learners. However, significant challenges such as inadequate teacher competence, poor infrastructure, limited access to digital resources, and the digital divide hinder effective implementation. The study argues that addressing these challenges requires coordinated efforts in policy development, funding, and continuous professional development. It concludes that technology-driven pedagogy can transform ECCE by improving teaching practices and learning outcomes, and recommends strengthening teacher education programmes, expanding digital infrastructure and promoting inclusive learning environments to ensure quality early learning in the digital age.
