Aug 2026 · International Conference on Aplied Social Sciences in Education · Vol 2, pp. 80-86 · 0 citations

Abstract

Globalization and digital transformation have reduced young people’s attention to local culture and created a challenge for education to build cultural awareness and character. This study describes the integration of the Tumpengan Durian tradition into Social Studies learning as a means of instilling cultural preservation values in elementary school students. This qualitative case study was conducted in Kronto Village, Lumbang District, Pasuruan Regency. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, students, community leaders, tradition organizers, and parents. The data were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the Tumpengan Durian tradition contains religious values, mutual cooperation, togetherness, gratitude, social responsibility, and cultural preservation. Its integration into Social Studies learning was implemented through lesson module planning, local cultural media, group discussions, cultural observation, and project-based assignments. Local tradition-based learning improved students’ cultural understanding, pride in regional culture, and awareness of participating in cultural preservation. The findings indicate that the Tumpengan Durian tradition can serve as a contextual Social Studies learning resource that supports the implementation of the Independent Curriculum.
