Architecture and Computational Design
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has influenced academia by offering tools that are effective for design learning, curriculum, research, and assessment. This research explores the development of existing teaching methods and emphasizes the responsibilities of the instructor. It discusses effective usage of artificial intelligence (AI) in architecture education and the drawbacks associated with it, especially in the context of Pakistan. Although there is an increasing global interest, there is a scarcity of research about the effects of this phenomenon on undergraduate architecture education in Pakistan. A descriptive research design draws on global literature to explain the potential role and use of AI and synthesises key themes related to creativity, ethics, infrastructure, and curriculum for future research directions. In summary, the research proves that a conscious and balanced approach to integration is important in ensuring that AI works to complement the creative processes of humans and preserves the values of design education.
The method, ECCOLA, is presented, which aims at making the high-level AI ethics principles more practical, making it possible for developers to more easily implement them in practice.
