Abstract
Autonomous navigation in complex outdoor terrains presents critical challenges for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) due to the inherent disconnect between global mapping and real-time sensor feedback. This work proposes a hybrid framework that integrates low-resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data with real-time LiDAR-based obstacle detection and terrain analysis for efficient path planning. A global path is initially computed using a preprocessed DEM-based A* algorithm. Subsequently, local sensor data drives adaptive path correction, enabling the UGV to negotiate sudden environmental changes while maintaining safety and efficiency. Simulation results in Gazebo demonstrate significant improvements over a baseline approach, achieving a 95\% obstacle avoidance rate and reducing the average encountered slope from $8^\circ$ to $2.7^\circ$ in custom terrain. This integration enhances path efficiency and terrain traversability and supports robust real-time adaptation, paving the way for more reliable autonomous navigation in dynamic outdoor environments.
Addressing the challenge of urban low-altitude drone operations where achieving simultaneous accessibility, real-time performance, and path quality under large-scale maps, dense building clusters, and unknown obstacles proves difficult, this paper proposes a hierarchical planning methodology tailored for urban environm...

This paper presents a collaborative UAV-UGV navigation framework for high-altitude, snow-covered terrain, where reduced visibility and unstable ground render conventional methods ineffective. We introduce a custom efficient U-Net architecture that falls under the computational constraints for real-time road segmentatio...

Autonomous navigation of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) in complex coastal waters requires reliable global path generation and stable local collision avoidance. Existing planners often couple path search, path smoothing, and collision-avoidance reactions, increasing global search burden and reducing reference...

Reliable UAV navigation is challenging when direct geometric perception is limited and only sparse environmental observations are available. This paper presents CoSafe-Nav, an integrated navigation framework that uses ultra-wideband (UWB) line-of-sight (LOS) observations to construct a candidate corridor and guide traj...
Port traffic changes on a time scale that is poorly served by fixed sensors and precomputed routes. We therefore formulate vessel guidance as a repeatedly updated planning problem and use an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to supply local observations when conventional sources are delayed or incomplete. Autonomous navigation on narrow pedestrian sidewalks presents a significant challenge for mobile robots used in structural health monitoring (SHM) applications. Accurate global and local perception is required to keep the mobile robot within the sidewalk boundaries while avoiding curbs, vegetation, and dynamic obstacle...
