The COVID-19 pandemic served as a profound stress test for the global scientific enterprise, conducted under unprecedented public scrutiny and political pressure. This paper argues that the pandemic did not simply erode scientific objectivity but rather accelerated a necessary reckoning with its complex nature. Moving beyond the traditional ideal of a value-free “view from nowhere,” we employ a multidisciplinary framework integrating philosophy of science and empirical meta-research. We analyze four key pressure points: the explosive surge in publications, the concomitant rise in retractions, the accelerated peer review process, and the pervasive politicization of research. Our analysis demonstrates that these pressures exposed the vulnerabilities of institutional safeguards designed to ensure rigor. In response, we propose a new paradigm of “reflexive objectivity.” This framework acknowledges the inherent value-ladenness of scientific inquiry while advocating for strengthened institutional practices—greater transparency, intentional inclusivity, and support for “slow science”—to build a more resilient and trustworthy scientific enterprise for the 21st century.

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.

It is proved that any global minimizer of the trajectory balance objective can define a policy that samples exactly from the target distribution, and empirically demonstrate the benefits of the trajectories balance objective for GFlowNet convergence, diversity of generated samples, and robustness to long action sequenc...
