Abstract
This article provides a systematic analysis of global regulatory experience with Raman spectroscopy in various industrial applications, including the food industry. General technical standards governing the metrological support of the method are reviewed, as well as pharmacopoeial monographs from leading countries where the method is recognized at the national level. It is established that Raman spectroscopy is at a similar level of development in the fields of materials science and pharmaceuticals in most countries: standards establish general requirements for equipment, calibration, verification, and terminology, and in pharmaceuticals, the method is included in national pharmacopoeias. It is shown that the most developed regulatory framework exists in China, where the method is already integrated into the state control system: both general standards (GB/T 40219-2021) and specific methods for the determination of specific substances (the SN/T 5644 series for agrochemicals, SN/T 2805-2011 for melamine in milk, and T/XJZJXH 0004-2024 for furosine) are in effect. In Russia and most countries, the use of this method for solving problems of identification and authentication of food products is only nascent, despite the availability of the technical and methodological basis. The main barriers preventing the inclusion of Raman spectroscopy in the list of analytical approaches in the food industry are identified: the complexity of food matrices, the lack of standardized protocols for sample preparation and data processing for food products, and the lengthy process of accumulating a body of evidence. At the same time, the availability of affordable laser sources and highly sensitive detectors, along with the development of chemometric data processing methods, creates the preconditions for overcoming existing limitations. Based on the analysis, key areas for further standardization of the method in the food industry and the harmonization of the domestic regulatory framework with international experience were identified.
