Foundations of Translation Pedagogy: For EFL University Students
Abstract
Foundations of Translation Pedagogy: For EFL University Students introduces the teaching and learning of translation for Arabic-speaking EFL university students across the Arab world. Written translation is the main focus. Modern Standard Arabic and English examples work in both directions, linking teaching decisions to learner needs, observable learning, and defensible translation choices. Some introductory translation experience is recommended; no prior pedagogy course is assumed. Fifteen chapters examine translator education, learner needs, translation competence and learning goals, how translation is learned, curriculum and lesson planning, selecting materials, teaching processes and strategies, Arabic–English language and cultural problems, task-based and collaborative learning, feedback and reflective practice, assessment fairness, digital and blended learning, machine translation and generative AI, ethics, and teacher development and course evaluation. The textbook uses accessible academic English, explained specialist terms, worked bilingual examples, guided activities, five Practice and Apply tasks per chapter, short quizzes, and explained answers. Roadmaps, infographics, learning outcomes, and key terms support review. Constructed classroom cases encourage evidence-based judgments and recognize alternative responses that meet the task conditions. A flexible 40-contact-hour course plan supports instructor adaptation. This introductory volume belongs to the Translation Studies branch of English Language Studies for EFL University Students.
