Application of the Transgenic Approach in the Plant System

Oct 2026
Genetically Modified Organisms Research

Abstract

Transgenic technology has emerged as one of the most powerful and innovative tools in modern agriculture, offering effective solutions to the growing challenges of population expansion, climate change, land degradation, and increasing biotic and abiotic stresses. The ability to introduce precise and beneficial genes from diverse organisms, including bacteria, fungi, animals, and other plants, into plant genomes has transformed crop development for improved productivity and resilience. Early breakthroughs, such as the use of Agrobacterium tumefaciens for gene transfer, laid the foundation for plant genetic engineering, further refined by advanced techniques such as gene gun delivery and CRISPR-mediated genome editing. These approaches enable the creation of crops that exhibit enhanced resistance to insects, pathogens, drought, salinity, extreme temperatures, and other environmental pressures.
