Ethics and Social Impacts of AI

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, and cloud computing are accelerating digital transformation by improving organizational efficiency, innovation, and data-driven decision-making across Asian economies. While these technologies create significant opportunities for economic and social development, they also introduce complex ethical challenges, including concerns related to privacy, algorithmic bias, transparency, accountability, cybersecurity, and responsible governance. This conceptual paper proposes a human-centred framework that integrates digital intelligence, ethical AI governance, and human intelligence to support responsible digital transformation. Grounded in the resource-based view, dynamic capability theory, stakeholder theory, institutional theory, and socio-technical systems theory, the framework explains how technological capabilities, ethical governance mechanisms, and human competencies collectively contribute to sustainable organizational performance. This paper emphasises that ethical decision-making, creativity, critical thinking, and responsible leadership remain essential complements to AI-driven systems. By presenting an integrated conceptual perspective, this study offers theoretical insights for future research and practical guidance for policymakers, organizational leaders, and technology practitioners seeking to balance digital innovation with ethical responsibility and long-term societal well-being.
