Reconceptualizing Higher Education through Student-Cantered Pedagogy and Open Knowledge Systems: A Practice-Oriented Framework for Institutional Transformation

Jul 2026 · International Journal of Humanities, Commerce and Education · Vol 2, pp. 10-24 · 1 citation

Abstract

Higher education must move beyond traditional knowledge-transmission models to meet the demands of rapidly changing knowledge societies. This article explores the integration of student-centered pedagogy and Open Knowledge Systems as a framework for transforming university education. Student-centered pedagogy promotes active learner participation, while Open Knowledge Systems support accessibility, collaboration, transparency, and inclusive knowledge creation. The study emphasizes reforms in curriculum, assessment, faculty development, governance, digital infrastructure, and institutional culture. In the context of India’s National Education Policy 2020 and UNESCO’s vision of inclusive knowledge societies, this integrated approach can help universities become equitable, innovative, and collaborative knowledge communities that promote critical thinking, research competence, social responsibility, and lifelong learning.
