IoT utilization holds significant potential to support the digital transformation of efficient, transparent, and sustainable urban transportation management and empirical insights showing that complex urban parking occupancy relies on real-time multi-variable data integration beyond simple traffic flow are provided.

Abstract

Rapid urban growth has led to an increase in vehicle volume and disorganized on-street parking management, which frequently exacerbates traffic congestion. This study aims to design and simulate an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart parking system architecture on urban road corridors using Cisco Packet Tracer software. The designed system integrates physical sensors, an IoT Gateway, a Cloud Server, and a real-time monitoring interface powered by the MQTT transmission protocol. Simulation testing was executed by recording 59 vehicle activity logs (ENTRY, EXIT, and TRAFFIC_OVERFLOW). The results demonstrate that the IoT system accurately detects vehicle presence with an accuracy rate exceeding 95% and a transmission latency of 0.5–1 second. Implementation of this system is projected to reduce parking search time by 25–30% and decrease surrounding traffic congestion by up to 15%. Linear regression analysis revealed that Traffic Rate has a very weak positive correlation with Current Occupancy, indicating that urban parking management is a complex system requiring real-time multi-variable data integration. This study concludes that IoT utilization holds significant potential to support the digital transformation of efficient, transparent, and sustainable urban transportation management. This study contributes a simulation-based validation framework for IoT smart parking architectures and empirical insights showing that complex urban parking occupancy relies on real-time multi-variable data integration beyond simple traffic flow.

Formally verifying agent-written full-stack web apps with PDD Kit

AI agents can generate code at a scale that’s hard for humans to review line-by-line. PDD Kit helps ensure the code is doing what the developer intended by creating formal specifications and testing against them. It converts developer intent into a Verus specification, proves AI-generated code meets it for every input, and uses tests where proofs aren't practical. Developers review intent, not every line.
