Abstract
A high-sensitivity fiber-optic pressure sensor is demonstrated, based on the Vernier effect in a cascaded dual Fabry–Pérot interferometer. The sensor incorporates a 343 μm polarization-maintaining fiber and a single-mode fiber, precisely aligned and secured within a ceramic sleeve to form an air cavity. The Vernier effect is realized by precisely controlling the silica cavity length through a fiber polishing process, which significantly enhances the gas pressure sensitivity. The device exhibits a linearity of 99.68% and a sensitivity of 50.93 pm kPa−1 over the range of 50.2 kPa–201.8 kPa. Owing to its compact structure, robust fabrication, and good short-term stability, this sensor holds great potential for gas pressure monitoring applications.
A Vernier effect–based fiber-optic microcavity sensor is proposed for simultaneous temperature and humidity sensing. Using a sensing Fabry–Perot interferometer (FPI) with a UV-adhesive cavity and a reference air-cavity FPI in parallel, the Vernier effect amplifies spectral shifts. The sensor exhibits temperature sensit...

This work demonstrates a highly sensitive fiber-optic current sensor based on a Mach–Zehnder interferometer. The sensing structure is fabricated by splicing a multimode fiber-no-core fiber-multimode fiber segment between two single-mode fibers, followed by successive coatings of ultraviolet (UV) glue and conductive sil...

We present a compact MEMS-on-fiber multisensor capable of simultaneous pressure and temperature sensing for surgical assistance. The device integrates a micromachined Fabry-Perot membrane for pressure detection and exploits the temperature-dependent bandgap shift of GaAs for thermal sensing. Both modalities are probed...

This paper proposes and experimentally demonstrates an all-fiber multiparameter sensor based on an integrated two-cavity Fabry-Pérot (F-P) interferometer. The sensing probe is fabricated by the controlled arc-discharge-induced fusion of a grapefruit-type photonic crystal fiber (G-PCF) and a single-mode fiber (SMF) to f...

ABSTRACT This article proposes an optical fiber sensor based on a high-performance Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI), using a piece of no-core fiber (NCF) spliced at both ends with single-mode fibers. Two attuned NCF pieces were adjusted to the dimensions of 30 µm and 60 µm in diameters, with lengths of 3 cm and 5 cm,...
