Abstract
A Vernier effect–based fiber-optic microcavity sensor is proposed for simultaneous temperature and humidity sensing. Using a sensing Fabry–Perot interferometer (FPI) with a UV-adhesive cavity and a reference air-cavity FPI in parallel, the Vernier effect amplifies spectral shifts. The sensor exhibits temperature sensitivity of –1.097 nm/°C (4.18× enhancement) and humidity sensitivity of –0.469 nm/%RH (4.11× enhancement). Through FFT and band-pass filtering, a sensitivity matrix enables dual-parameter decoupling. With simple structure and high sensitivity, it is suitable for environmental, biomedical, and industrial monitoring.
A high-sensitivity fiber-optic pressure sensor is demonstrated, based on the Vernier effect in a cascaded dual Fabry–Pérot interferometer. The sensor incorporates a 343 μm polarization-maintaining fiber and a single-mode fiber, precisely aligned and secured within a ceramic sleeve to form an air cavity. The Vernier eff...

This article proposes a high-sensitivity Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI)-surface plasmon resonance (SPR) salinity sensor based on a fiber optic macrobending structure of single-mode fiber-multimode fiber-single mode fiber (SMS) to address the issue of temperature-salt cross-sensitivity in seawater detection. By a fas...

The work presents two versions of a fiber-optic temperature sensor based on a cascade Fabry-Perot interferometer with enhanced sensitivity due to the optical Vernier effect. The version without an intermediate glass layer offers greater sensitivity gains but is more complex to manufacture compared to the version with a...

We report a liquid-level sensor based on the air-cladding-mode band of a 37.5° tilted fiber Bragg grating (TFBG). Partial immersion increases the radiative loss of this mode band, and the liquid level is retrieved from the integrated area between its fitted upper and lower spectral envelopes. The sensor exhibits a sens...

Multimode interference (MMI) fiber sensors with singlemode–multimode–singlemode (SMS) structures based on no-core multimode fiber (NC-MMF), have been widely employed for refractive index (RI) sensing of liquid samples due to their simplicity, low cost, and high sensitivity to changes in the immersion medium. In this wo...
