The role of CD44 and osteopontin in infection and inflammation

· 0 citations · 63 references

TL;DR

It is shown here that CD44 facilitates bacterial outgrowth and dissemination during pneumococcal pneumonia, which in lethal infection results in a prolonged survival of CD44 KO mice, and during sublethal pneumonia CD44 contributes to the resolution of the inflammatory response.

Pneumococcal hydrogen peroxide production is associated with epithelial and pulmonary immune responses during pneumonia

Streptococcus pneumoniae (Spn) produces substantial amounts of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), a metabolic byproduct with cytotoxic and immunomodulatory effects. Although pneumococcal H₂O₂ has been implicated in pathogenesis, its contribution to pulmonary immune responses and epithelial transcriptional responses dur...

Type 2 immunity in Clostridioides difficile infection.

The role of type 2 immunity in protection against C. difficile infection (CDI) has recently become better appreciated, prompting further exploration into mechanistic underpinnings of host response to infection. Though it is known that abundance of type 2 effector cells negatively correlates with CDI severity in mice an...

Role of Hepcidin in Protection Against Systemic Dissemination During Oropharyngeal Candida albicans Infection

Candida albicans (C. albicans) is a commensal fungus that can cause mucosal and systemic disease when host immunity or microbiota balance is disrupted. Hepcidin is a hepatic peptide hormone that degrades the iron exporter ferroportin, restricts extracellular iron availability, and forms a key component of nutritional i...

Monocyte inflammation and adaptive immune dysfunction in severe Klebsiella pneumoniae pneumonia

Abstract Severe Klebsiella pneumoniae pneumonia is associated with substantial mortality and is characterized by intense systemic inflammation that coexists with a failure to control infection. The cellular changes underlying the transition from effective host defense to immune dysfunction remain incompletely defined....

Trigonelline Alleviates Mycoplasma pneumoniae -induced Pneumonia in Mice by Inhibiting ERK/JNK and NF-κB Signaling Pathways

Pneumonia continues to represent a significant global health concern, characterized by substantial morbidity and mortality despite advancements in modern medicine. This respiratory infection remains a leading cause of hospitalization and death worldwide, particularly in developing nations. This study inves...
