TL;DR

A new species in Adustochaete is revealed and the species diversity of Auriculariales in China is enriched, which should help protect and sustainably use fungal natural resources.

Abstract

Adustochaete is a small genus of wood-inhabiting basidiomycetes, currently comprising only six described species. A recent study has clarified the classification of this genus by combining phylogenetic analyses and morphological characteristics. However, the species diversity of Adustochaete in the high-altitude forests of Yunnan Province, China, has not been systematically studied. In the present study, detailed morphological characteristics and combined multi-locus phylogenetic analyses based on the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) and the large subunit (nrLSU) of the nuclear ribosomal DNA (rDNA) revealed a new species in Adustochaete, viz. A. sinensis. Comprehensive descriptions, micrographs, and phylogenetic analysis results are provided. The present study enriches the species diversity of Auriculariales in China, which should help protect and sustainably use fungal natural resources.

Nigropunctata xishuangbannaensis sp. nov. (Pallidoperidiaceae, Xylariales), a new species from bamboo in Yunnan, China

Nigropunctata xishuangbannaensis sp. nov. is introduced in this study, isolated from decaying bamboo culms in Yunnan Province, China. Multigene phylogenetic analyses based on five loci (ITS, LSU, rpb2, tub2, and tef1-α) place this taxon in a well-supported, distinct lineage clearly separated from closely related specie...

Helvellosebacina sclerotica (Sebacinaceae, Sebacinales), a new species from China, based on morphology and phylogeny

Helvellosebacina sclerotica sp. nov. was found in Yunnan Province, China, which is described here as a new species based on the morphological characteristics and molecular evidence. It is characterized by the resupinate basidiomata, smooth hymenial surface, a monomitic hyphal system with septate generative hyphae, and...

Two new species of Oberwinklerozyma and Rosettozyma (Microbotryomycetes) from Yunnan, southwestern China

Oberwinklerozyma and Rosettozyma comprise a relatively small number of described species worldwide. Although several novel species from China have recently been reported, the species diversity of these two genera remains incompletely understood. In this study, two novel yeast species, Oberwinklerozyma jinghongens...

A new corticioid fungal species, Hyphoderma jingguense sp. nov., collected from a forest habitat in Yunnan Province, China, is described and illustrated based on morphological and molecular evidence. Morphologically, the species is characterized by ceraceous basidiomata with a farinaceous hymenial surface, a monomitic...

Molecular phylogeny and morphology reveal a new species, Heterocorticium cremeum (Auriculariaceae, Auriculariales) from China

In this study, a new species, Heterocorticium cremeum, is proposed based on morphological features and molecular evidence. The new species is characterized by resupinate, membranaceous to slightly coriaceous basidiomata with a smooth to slightly uneven and white to cream hymenial surface, a monomitic hyphal system comp...
