Prophage-Derived Molecules as Anti-Vibrio Agents in Aquaculture: Mechanisms of Biofilm Control and Virulence Suppression

Vibriosis causes substantial losses in marine and brackish-water aquaculture, while increasing antimicrobial resistance limits the effectiveness of conventional antibiotic treatment. Biofilm formation and quorum-sensing-controlled virulence further contribute to the persistence of pathogenic Vibrio species. Prophages i...

Targeting the Candida albicans agglutinin-like sequence 3 adhesin to disrupt oral polymicrobial bacterial-fungal biofilms: mechanisms and therapeutic strategies.

This review examines the molecular architecture and domain organization of Als3, including the N-terminal peptide-binding cavity (PBC) and the amyloid-forming region, as well as the regulatory network controlling ALS3 expression, which is one of the few targets for which a single treatment can act on both the fungal an...

Gramicidin D as a Multi-Target Antimicrobial Against Staphylococcus aureus: Biofilm Disruption, Virulence Attenuation, Antibiotic Potentiation, and Protein-Peptide Docking Insight.

G gramicidin D demonstrated significant antibacterial efficacy against S. aureus and methicillin-resistant S. aureus and exhibited synergistic effects with oxacillin and gentamicin against S. aureus; however, it showed synergy with oxacillin only against MRSA.

PrfA, the master virulence regulator of Listeria monocytogenes: structural–functional insights, regulatory architecture, and antivirulence strategies

The structure and regulatory circuitry of PrfA are addressed, then antivirulence strategies targeting this protein using natural compounds, synthetic inhibitors, and nanomaterial-based approaches are surveyed.

Stage V sporulation protein G as a global regulator of biofilm formation and virulence in Staphylococcus species: molecular mechanisms and therapeutic potential

This review highlights SpoVG’s function in Staphylococcus, including its regulation of the expression of the adhesion factor gene sasC and the thermonuclease, which enables SpoVG to act as a molecular rheostat that influences biofilm formation and reduces acute virulence in response to environmental signals.
