ENHANCING EFL LEARNERS’ DISCOURSE SKILLS THROUGH MULTIMODAL DIGITAL TOOLS: AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of multimodal digital applications in enhancing discourse skills among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners in higher education. Specifically, the research examines the impact of English Listening and Speaking (Moteex) and Readable (Playlingo LTD) applications on learners’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities. In this experimental study, participants consisted of second-year EFL undergraduates at the Azerbaijan University of Languages, who were divided into experimental and control groups. Results showed significant improvements in the experimental groups’ discourse competence, especially in cohesion, coherence, and communicative fluency, with audio-visual and interactive elements enhancing engagement, comprehension, and accuracy.
