Abstract
Introduction. The article studies the innovative potential of the macro-region as a key factor of sustainable socio-economic development in the context of modern geopolitical and economic challenges. The relevance of the topic is determined by the need to achieve technological sovereignty, reduce import dependence and increase the competitiveness of territories under sanctions pressure. It is emphasized that high differentiation of climatic, logistical and socio-economic characteristics of Russian regions precludes the application of universal solutions and requires consideration of the unique features of macro-regions.
Goal. The article aims to systematize the existing scientific approaches to defining the concept of innovation potential, identify their advantages and limitations applicable to the macro-regional level, and formulate the authors’ definition that integrates resource, process and adaptation components.
Materials and methods. The methodological basis comprises works of leading Russian and foreign economists in the field of innovation development and regional economy. The methods of theoretical-methodological, comparative and conceptual analysis were applied.
Results and discussion. The study identifies four key approaches to interpreting innovation potential: the resource, the inclination, the process-result and the generalized ones. Based on critical synthesis, the authors’ definition of macro-regional innovation potential is proposed. It considers not only the totality of available and mobilized resources but also the system’s readiness for innovative transformations under the influence of the external environment.
Conclusion. The theoretical significance of the work lies in the systematization of scientific views on the structure of innovation potential. The practical value is determined by the possibility of using the results to improve regional innovation policy aimed at creating a synergistic effect from interregional interaction.
