Abstract
The low level of metacognitive skills among students is the issue underlying this study. The objective is to examine the extent to which self-management techniques implemented through group counseling services can improve metacognitive skills among eighth-grade students in the 2025/2026 academic year. A one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design was chosen for this study, with eight students selected through purposive sampling as subjects. Metacognitive ability was measured using a scale consisting of 48 statements, validated against pretest results, with high reliability (Cronbach’s alpha of 0.889). Data analysis employed the Shapiro-Wilk normality test followed by a paired-samples t-test using SPSS version 22. A significance value of 0.002 (p < 0.05) was obtained, with the difference in mean metacognitive scores between the pretest and posttest reaching 23.125%. These findings confirm that the Self-Management technique, implemented through group counseling, successfully and effectively improved students’ metacognition.
